Website Deployment Checklist

The following steps are designed to assist you setup and configure your web server for use with ServiceCEO’s web modules (i.e., MobileTech, Customer Web Access and the API.)

  1. Select a Dedicated Computer as your Web Server

  2. Install/Configure IIS

  3. Install the Website

  4. Accessing your Website on the Internet

  5. Troubleshooting the Website

There are significant security risks associated with placing any web server on a public network such as the Internet. This checklist does not cover the basics of secure server administration, including:

  • File and directory security

  • Firewall configuration and maintenance

  • Regular server maintenance

  • Regular security patch installation

We also assume that you possess a fair degree of knowledge about general networking and web server administration, and is meant only to provide supplemental information on the setup of the ServiceCEO Web modules on top of an existing server foundation. If you are unsure of how to proceed, please contact your local network professional. They will be able to ensure that access is properly setup and your systems are not at risk.

For example, if you enter the URL http://www.insightdirect.com/support.html in your browser, this sends a request to the server whose domain name is insightdirect.com. The server then fetches the page named support.html and sends it to your browser. administration

  • IIS IIS (Internet Information Server) is IIS is Microsoft's business-class Web server. Although Apache boasts more total worldwide installations than IIS, many corporations choose IIS as their Web server because it is supported by a commercial organization. Some have criticized IIS in the past, though, for its alleged security weaknesses. IIS has improved over the years, supports many Web standards including SSL, and integrates well with other Microsoft Web technologies such as FrontPage. An administrator can manage IIS through a graphical console, the Internet Services Manager. 5.0 or higher
